| A
thermo-chemical diffusion process which produces an extremely
hard layer of metallic carbides at the surface of the
treated components providing exceptionally high resistance
to abrasive and adhesive wear, seizure and scuffing. |
 |
Typically
applied to tool steels with high inherent strength, the surface
layer can achieve hardnesses in excess of 3000 to 3500 Hv and
routinely outperforms both TiC and TiN coatings produced by
PVD or CVD processes in terms of both hardness and layer adhesion.
The process method allows the treatment of complex shapes and
has the additional benefit of reducing the surface coefficient
of friction enabling a significant reduction in necessary lubrication. |
